Valentines Mansion & Gardens

At the end of the 1850s, the Great Northern Railway Company opened Wood Green (now Alexandra Palace) station and the Great Northern Palace Company acquired Tottenham Wood Farm. The latter company opened a pleasure garden and then reused materials from the international exhibition held at South Kensington in 1862 to build the first Alexandra Palace. A railway branch line connected the palace with Highgate station on Archway Road.

Kenneth More Theatre

About the centre

Vision officially took over the management of the Kenneth More Theatre in Ilford on 1 September 2019.

The Theatre was named after the much loved British Film and Stage actor Kenneth More who died in 1982. Featuring a steeply raked auditorium and a small studio theatre, it was designed by the Borough Architect and officially opened on 3 January 1975. The theatre will continue to operate as before, putting on new shows, as well as reimagining older ones. Local community groups will also be given access to the space to create bold new projects, such as drama lessons for local children.

If you are interested in hiring the theatre or would like to be considered as a volunteer at the theatre, please register your information via our ‘Enquire Now‘ online form. Please be aware that we are not currently recruiting any staff for the Theatre, however, any future vacancies will be advertised on our website. We will ensure that the KMT is available to hire by a range of theatre companies both old and new, along with a new programme of events and activities.

Clayhall Park

About the park

Clayhall Park is a mature well-landscaped park set in the heart of one of Ilford’s premier residential areas and one of our Green Flag Award Parks. There is a formal rose garden, pagoda, and an impressive avenue of mature horse chestnut trees. Complete with a small maze with wheelchair access, the Rose Garden provides beautiful scenery and a relaxing escape from the rest of the park. The Park also has 2 play areas for younger children and for older children and  pre-bookable tennis courts.

SOUTH PARK

We have 7 courts available to play on. The four main tennis courts (courts 1-4) are in two blocks in the middle of the park. Courts 5-7 are part of a multi sports area at the south end of the park. South Park is easily accessible from Putney Bridge or Parson’s Green (see map below for details). Between courts 1&2 and 3&4 there is a friendly cafe serving food and refreshments, and toilets are also available nearby.
